Tied to the stake, as you light the flame
Quickly engulfed there is no escape
All turn to ash my fear and my pain

Screaming Martyrs
In the face of death they cling to their faith
Their lips, mouthing their sacred prayers
In between shallow, fluttering breaths
Tears cascade down their cheeks like a flood
I can hear their screaming
Waves of tortured anguish,
Violently tearing their way into my ears.
It’s been ten years since that day, (and still)
I’m waking every night
Drenched in sweat
Cold to the bone
My mouth dry as the desert was on that day
Screams along the roadside
Their mouths, their eyes, open wide
Their need for sacrifice
To see them hung in crucified delight
These weren’t scream of fear, no
Their cries were victorious
Full of sadness, wrought with pity
As though, we needed the forgiveness
As though, we needed the saving
From one god…what God?
Blood where they were crucified
Ashes where they burned alive
The screaming martyrs were sacrificed
